curator:

Painting, born on the border between the real and the illusory, plunges into an irrational and indeterminate space. At the formal level it is expressed in the combination of abstract and figurative artistic language. The main structural unit in Kirill's painting is the visual emblem, merged, concentrated, losing the linear flow of information. In each work, the idea of play is an element of a holistic worldview. Play equates the real and the imaginary, separates from the subject of values, the subject is endowed with a "fictitious self" - a role and becomes detached. Man has always played without realizing it himself. "The desire for a more beautiful life becomes a social element of play" (Johan Huizinga. Homo Ludens).

Space in Makarov's paintings is concrete and illusory at the same time. His characters are immersed in games, from computer games to hopscotch. But the spell cast on them captures us as well: Abstract stains crawl across figurative images, obscuring them and making everything that happens more irrational.
